One of Chandler and Beck's babies ( who's now their smallest one ) was born with a black beak. However as it's growing older, you can see that the beak is slowly changing color to the customary orange. Once the baby is about six weeks, depending on the final color of the beak and the coloration of it's feathers, we'll be able to tell if it's male or female.
The baby is the one in the middle.

Joey
Here are some photographs of Joey looking all cute and puffed up! He's puffed up because he's trying to attract his mate ( She's the new one we got for him after Phoebe flew away ). Joey's easily one of the best looking finches of all the ones we've got, but here all puffed up he just looks plain cute!

Our Lazy Babies
Ricky and Rachel's four babies started eating on their own a few days after they came out of the nest. However they never miss a chance to get fed by their parents! Even if they've just eaten themselves silly, if they see their parents near them they screech away demanding food, and of course the poor parents have no choice but to oblige!

Sad News
It was a sad day for us today as our smallest baby finch died. He's the one in some of the older posts and the one that we held in our hand in some of the photographs. He was always the smallest of all the babies, and I think he followed his older brothers and sisters out of the nest and came out earlier than he should have. Also, he was always a quiet baby, far more interested in sleeping than yelling for food, and then being fed by his parents. As a result he got far less food than the others, but he seemed to be surviving. This morning however we found that his parents refused to feed him and just stopped altogether. We moved him and his Dad into a separate cage hoping that it would help, and the father would start feeding him - unfortunately he didn't, and the baby got weaker and weaker. We even tried hand feeding him, but he refused to open his mouth and it just didn't work. He ultimately succumbed today.
In remembrance.
