After we found out that Galiff Street is the mecca for pets, we decided to go there to get our two female finches. It's a weekly market that is held every Sunday, and it starts as early at 4.30 am! We left home at around 5.00 am and set off - I for one couldn't contain my excitement at the thought of entering pet paradise and when we got there I wasn't dissapointed! Puppies, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, pigeons, ducklings, chicks, plants ... just amazing!
After spending a few hours there and going from stall to stall, we finally found our two female finches! We also bought another nest as now we'd have four couples, and we had only three nests.
I won't say more about the place - the photographs will speak for themselves.
By the way how many stalls are there where Pups are sold?
ReplyDeleteThere are at least 10 guys I'd reckon.
ReplyDeleteCould you please tell me the cost of a pair of finches ?

ReplyDeleteThe price for a pair of finches range anywhere from 100 - 175 for a pair depending on quality.
DeleteIt's between Rs.150 - 175 for a pair of Zebra Finches. The Gouldian Finches costs anywhere between Rs.2000 - 4000 per pair!
ReplyDeleteI have also decided to bring a parrot and a pair of love birds to my home next Sunday. Can you tell me by what time the market gets end so that I can reach there by that time and also plz let me know the approx price of a parrot.
ReplyDeleteThe market opens at around 5 am, and goes on till at least about 12 noon. However if you want to be able to choose the best birds, then the earlier you go, the better! I don't know how much the parrots cost. Budgies are about 170 - 200 a pair, depending on quality, and finches about 150 - 175 a pair.
DeleteThnx for replying Divya. As I stay v.v.far from Galiff Street so I wanted to know the market timings.I will go this Sunday around 6am.I am planning to bring a parrot and 5-6 budgies. How are your Budgies & Finches?Have seen their pics. They are really very sweet & cute.Do you have any other pets other than birdies? I also like puppies a lot. This time I will go and know their prices of baby Spitz Dog and later I will bring. What food should I have to give to the budgies and from which day I will have to start bathing them?
ReplyDeleteWe have just the finches and budgies - no other pets at the moment! For the budgies, you will get the food also at Galiff Street - and am sure you will find at your local market too. They eat seeds, fresh vegetables, fruit etc. Also make sure you buy the white calcium that they sell at Galiff. In their water, give them vitamin drops, which you can buy from a chemist. The finches have a bath in the water, but the budgies only drink water ... they're not fond of having baths.
ReplyDeleteAt last this Sunday I went to Galiff Street and I bought 6 budgies(3 couples) and 1 parrot(male). My budgies are v.sweet and they are v.happy here, everytime they play around the cage.I have fix some toys in the cage so that they can play and they are v.happy with it!I have given them white calcium but they only eat the seeds,v.rare 1 budgie only had that calcium.
ReplyDeleteMy parrot is v.angry with me as I havent brought his girlfriend with him and so he is not having anything. He refused to have guava, apple, chillies.he only had seeds and that also very little. He is not even saying anything,I have a doubt may be he has some problem with his throat and so he cannot speak. Its been 3 days that we havent hear anything from him whereas my budgies are chirping everytime.I am a bit depressed also for him as I can realize his pain so this coming Sunday I will again go to Galiff street to bring his pair or else will return this parrot to the seller and will bring a pair of parrot this time, not only a single one.
I love this market of Galiff Street and thanks for helping me out for this market information!
Good to hear you finally went and bought your birds! The budgies will eat the calcium in a few days ... they're probably settling down and getting used to their new home. Likewise with your parrot. But yes, a mate for him will keep him happier!
ReplyDeleteToday I visited Galiff Street again and bought a pair of finches. They are v.sweet & loving and enjoying their new home from the very 1st day...
ReplyDeleteGood to hear!
